PSG Edges Marseille on Penalties to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now won the prestigious cup on fourteen different occasions.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown between the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side struck twice late to seize a surprise advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial equaliser in the final moments to send the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted with composure for PSG to seal a convincing shootout win.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
