The EU might “act quickly and firmly” against what it deems “unwarranted” visa bans issued by the US on five Europeans working on combating online hate and disinformation, an EU official has said.

European Leaders Condemn US Move as ‘Intimidation’

Officials from Europe such as the French president charged Washington of “bullying and threats”, following the visa restrictions targeted individuals that were at the heart of campaigns to enact laws regulating US-based technology firms.

“For too long, European activists have led coordinated campaigns to pressure US companies to suppress US perspectives they oppose,” stated the US secretary of state in a social media post. “The current administration will no longer tolerate such actions of censorship beyond its borders.”
