An extensive two-month journey around the Land Down Under has been cancelled in the wake of the tragic passing of an elderly lady who was abandoned by the ship on a isolated coastal location.

The passenger had been hiking on the remote island with other travelers from the vessel, but separated from the excursion for a pause. The liner left without her and returned after some time after the personnel realised the passenger was missing.

An extensive search operation discovered her remains the subsequent day.

Officials are investigating the event, alongside police and the official investigator.

Head of the voyage organizer stated that travelers and personnel on the ship were told that the rest of the voyage had been cancelled due to the "unfortunate death and prior technical problems".

The ship first departed the coastal city on the 24th of October, and was only 48 hours into the voyage at the time of the 80-year-old's passing. Lizard Island was the opening port on the itinerary.

Guests on board - who usually pay tens of thousands of currency to participate in the voyage - were ferried there for a day trip with the option of walking or underwater exploration.

The child of the victim said that her family was "surprised and distressed that the vessel left Lizard Island after an scheduled outing without my parent".

Through her comments, she described her mum as an "active elderly person" who was a participant of a hiking group.

"Based on limited information we have been informed, it looks that there was a failure of attention and basic judgment," she mentioned.

She added that she wished the inquiry would be able to determine what "the organization should have performed that might have saved Her life".

"Based on information from the authorities that it was a very hot afternoon, and mum became unwell on the hill climb," she explained.

"They requested her to return, unescorted. Then the boat departed, reportedly without performing a headcount.

"At some stage in that sequence, or soon after, mother died, without company."

Operator Reaction

In a statement, the Chief Executive affirmed that the operator was "collaborating extensively with investigators to assist their examination".

He mentioned that the organization was "very regretful that this has happened" and had extended its full support to the relatives.

Maritime Business Practices

The vessel caters for up to a hundred twenty guests with 46 crew, according to official information. It was purpose-built to enter remote regions of the nation's coastline and is fitted with "auxiliary vessels" - small boats used to take individuals on shore trips.

Incidents like this are uncommon, and passenger vessels have protocols to record which individuals are getting on or disembarking, according to travel authorities.
